The Cutoff Report is an independent publication for people who build things on top of AI: developers, founders and technical product people. We do two things.
We report the news. Short, factual briefs on AI, startups, software, hardware, security and technology policy, published throughout the day, with longer pieces when a story deserves one.
We measure the models ourselves. Every hour we call the major AI models through a single account and record what the call was billed, how long it took and whether it succeeded. On a schedule we also run a fixed set of graded tasks against each one. That gives four live pages: prices per million tokens as actually billed, speed and uptime, a standing benchmark, and a funding tracker of who is raising money in AI.
Who it's for
If you are choosing which model to ship on, watching what it costs you, or keeping an eye on who just raised, this site is written for you. There is no opinion column and no hot takes — just what happened, what it costs, and what changed since yesterday.
How we work
We monitor public news feeds from established technology publications to identify what is happening. Every article on this site is then written from scratch in our own words. We do not republish, syndicate or copy article text from other outlets. Where a story originates with another publication's reporting, that publication is credited by name on the article and linked in the Sources section.
AI disclosure
Our drafting and editing pipeline is AI-assisted. Article text and cover illustrations are produced with automated systems working from the source material described above, and are labelled as such on every story. Automated writing can make mistakes, so we ask readers to treat the linked original reporting as the authoritative record and to tell us about any error.
The measurements on our data pages are not written by a model — they are readings taken by our own monitoring, and each page explains exactly how it was collected and where it falls short.
